Magic Kingdom's Carousel: It's Happily Ever After

Some of the most magical things at Walt Disney World weren’t built for a fairy tale — they were saved by one. The Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is one of those stories.
Built in 1917, this beautiful hand-carved carousel spent decades traveling from Detroit to New Jersey, delighting riders at parks along the way. But when its last home closed in 1965, it was left abandoned and forgotten. The wrecking crew was already scheduled. It was days away from being destroyed forever.
But Disney saw something special in those 90 hand-painted horses.
They rescued the entire carousel, transported it to Florida, and gave it a complete restoration. Every horse was meticulously repainted by hand. 23-karat gold accents were added to make it shine like the fairy-tale ride it was always meant to be.
Roy O. Disney himself even oversaw the final installation, personally adjusting the entire structure by just eight inches so it would line up perfectly with Cinderella Castle.
Today, the Prince Charming Regal Carousel stands proudly in the heart of Magic Kingdom — a survivor that found its true home. When you ride it, you’re not just going in circles. You’re riding a piece of history that almost didn’t get its happily ever after… but did.
It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most magical things are the ones that were almost lost — until someone believed in them enough to save them.
