Disney World Turns 55 Today! Anniversary Stickers & Stage Celebration
Updated: Oct 8
Walt Disney World turned fifty-five today, and I was there for the moment. The park opened with brief remarks from President Joe Schott in front of Cinderella Castle, with Mickey and the characters joining him on stage and fireworks closing out the 55th birthday celebration.

I got there early — the same way I did as a five-year-old on my first visit back in 1976, standing in front of the Walt Disney World Railroad caboose with my mom and dad. Fifty years later, I’m still running to the castle.

The free anniversary merch they handed out was 55th anniversary stickers at the gates — I grabbed every one. They are adorable.

The 55th anniversary year runs from today through next October, and I’ll be covering it all in the holiday issue. If you were there this morning, I’d love to hear about it — what did you see?
